Warning over lead in Hashmi eyeliner

WARNING OVER LEAD IN HASHMI EYELINER

A public warning has been issued about an imported cosmetic eye liner, which has dangerous levels of lead and may have caused three children to become sick.

Minister for Better Regulation Matt Kean said testing of the imported cosmetics, including Hashmi Surmi Special and Hashmi Kohl Aswad eyeliners, revealed an 84 per cent lead content. The products also contained high levels of dangerous metals like arsenic, cadmium, chromium and mercury.

Mr Kean said concerns were raised when the three children from the same family became sick.

There is a serious health warning over makeup products with an imported eyeliner pulled from shelves after three children became unwell.

Minister for Innovation and Better Regulation Minister Matt Kean said it's an absolute disgrace that these products did not disclose that they contained lead.

A Villawood-based stonework importing company has been fined $200,000 after a sub-contractor was partially crushed and left with permanent injuries.

Minister for Better Regulation Matt Kean said Cosentino Australia Pty Limited was sentenced in the Sydney District Court after the company was found guilty of failing to ensure the health and safety of its workers.

The incident in Prestons saw a 34 year old truck driver suffer serious injuries when he was struck by stone slabs that fell from an A-frame on a truck after the restraints were removed during delivery.

Preschools benefit from new funding

Five preschools in the Hornsby electorate will benefit from up to $15,000 in funding. Funding can be used to install shade cloths, kitchen gardens or an outdoor jungle gym to enrich the learning process for the pre-schoolers.

Matt Kean said: “KU Berowra Preschool, KU Galston Preschool, KU Grevillea Preschool, Normanhurst West Community Preschool along with The Jack and Jill Kindergarten will share in $64,000 in funding following their successful application for the NSW Government’s Quality Learning Environments fund.”

The Berowra Rural Fire Brigade is one step closer to moving into their new premises at Berowra Oval with the new building almost complete.

"The new shed is a vast improvement on their current location and will be able to provide the volunteers with the best possible equipment and facilities," said Matt Kean MP.

"Our volunteers do so much for our community so I was pleased to support them in a small way with a $18,000 Community Building Partnership grant which will be used to improve the facilities in the new building," said Mr Kean.

Home sharing law reforms

Home sharing hosts and guests will be subject to a strict two-strike rule under proposed state laws. Rentals made through businesses like Airbnb will be capped at 180 days in Greater Sydney and 360 days in other areas.

Minister for Innovation and Better Regulation Matt Kean told 2GB they are still working to develop the official code of conduct.
