Campgrounds at National Parks reopen

11 June 2020

This June long weekend, I’m encouraging all NSW locals to get out and about and visit their favourite national park and regional destinations no matter whether it’s for a night in one of our 200+ campgrounds which are now bookable online, or just to enjoy the great outdoors. Be sure to keep your distance, complete the NPWS trip intention form and look after our natural wonders.

Grants to combat isolation for seniors

Hornsby seniors at risk of social isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic will be the focus of $600,000 in funding to keep our older community connected.

Member for Hornsby Matt Kean urged eligible organisations in Hornsby to apply for the grants ranging from $10,000 to $100,000.

“We want to fund innovative ideas in Hornsby to help seniors keep in touch by utilising phone calls, online platforms or other methods of communication,” said Mr Kean.

NSW Parliament Question Time 17th September

27 September 2019

Mr GREG PIPER (Lake Macquarie) (15:00): My question is directed to the Minister for Energy and Environment. Given his support for additional air quality monitoring in Sydney, will the Minister now give consideration to installing independently observed air quality monitors in Lake Macquarie to validate those operated by industry including Eraring Power Station and coalmining operations?

Race is on for second High School in Hornsby

Matt Kean MP's announcement last week for investigations to start into a Co-ed High School for Hornsby came hot on the heels of Slate Government Labor Candidate hopeful Katie Gompertz' Petition for an additional high school for the Hornsby electorate.

Whilst Mr Kean has confirmed the NSW Stale Government wilt commence a feasibility study investigating the need for a new co-educational high school in the Homsby area, Ms Gompertz is busy collecting signatures, 800 as Bush Tele went to print, from eager parents seeking a more localised secondary education option for their children.

Rising complaints against dodgy building operators

There have been more complaints this year about private building certifiers in NSW than in any of the previous five years, as the NSW government moves to crack down on dodgy operators and create independence between developers and certifiers.

According to the NSW Department of Fair Trading, there have been 163 complaints this year — more than one every two days — and penalties worth more than $104,000 have been handed out. There were 116 complaints last year and $96,500 in penalties.

Pollies off and running

Pollies off and running

WHILE the political race raged on in Canberra, federal minister and Brad- field MP Paul Fletcher was running for a different sort of prize at home.

A number of local pollies supported the annual San Run For Life, with Mr Fletcher finishing in a creditable 44th with a time of 24 minutes and 53 sec- onds. Ku-ring-gai state Liberal MP Ali- ster Henskens completed the course in just under an hour while his Hornsby colleague Matt Kean came in 80th in

just over 28 minutes. Hornsby Mayor Philip Ruddock fired the starting gun.

'Not good enough': Electronic gadget sellers top complaints register

The quality of some products sold by the country's top electronic retailers, including Kogan, Samsung and Harvey Norman, is "not good enough", says NSW Fair Trading Minister Matt Kean.

His comments come as the latest monthly list of consumer complaints was dominated by claims of defective and poor quality goods sold by the country's biggest and most well-known electronic retailers.

Of the 18 companies generating 314 complaints on the monthly register, nine were electronic retailers.

These related to laptops, mobile phones, cameras and drones.
