Renewable Gas Certification to Drive Net Zero Emissions Future

RENEWABLE GAS CERTIFICATION TO DRIVE NET ZERO EMISSIONS FUTURE

Gas customers across NSW will soon be able to buy renewable gas to help reduce their carbon emissions following the launch of Australia’s first Renewable Gas Certification scheme.

Energy Minister Matt Kean said a renewable gas certification scheme will unlock a voluntary market for gas users to buy renewable gases, like biomethane which can be produced from wastewater, food and garden waste.

PLANS TO REVITALISE FORT DENISON REVEALED

New dining options, spectacular harbour views and educational tours celebrating the heritage of this unique site will soon be available for the whole community to enjoy, as part of the NSW Government’s plan to revitalise Fort Denison.

Environment Minister Matt Kean said the up to 25 year lease to operate a restaurant, manage functions and conduct tours on the Sydney Harbour island was awarded to Fort Denison Dining, part of The Point Group, following a competitive tender process.

Big Battery to help power NSW Schools and Hospitals

BIG BATTERY TO HELP POWER NSW SCHOOLS AND HOSPITALS

A 100-megawatt battery will help to power schools, hospitals and Government buildings across NSW under the state’s new electricity supply contract.

As part of the $3.2 billion 10 year contract, awarded to Shell Energy and Edify, a 100-megawatt battery will be built alongside the Darlington Point Solar Farm in the Riverina, providing critical dispatchable electricity prior to the closure of the Liddell Power Station.

Energy Minister Matt Kean said the deal delivers great value for money and electricity security for the people of NSW.

Australia's First Green Hydrogen/Gas Power Plant

NSW is set to become home to Australia's first dual fuel capable hydrogen/gas power plant following an $83 million funding agreement for the Tallawarra B project in the Illawarra. 

Deputy Premier John Barilaro said the project is vital infrastructure needed to provide dispatchable electricity capacity to replace the Liddell Power Station and create the industries and jobs of the future.

Member for Hornsby Matt Kean dropped in to meet with the committee and see first-hand some of the work that has been done since the garden opened in 2016.

ANZAC Day 2021

106 years on from the landing at Anzac Cove, we remember that morning when Australian soldiers waited in small boats on a darkened sea, awaiting the call to battle.

One of our own - a Hornsby man, Private Len Smith, recorded in his diary the events he witnessed on the 25th of April 1915 as a member of the 1st Australian Field Ambulance.

He wrote: “After landing, the men made a gallant charge up the hill in the face of the Turkish machine guns and bayonets.  

“It is said that they reached the top of the hill inside 7 minutes.

Berowra local and PHD Student, Luke Silver, is part of a team of scientists at the University of Sydney working on ‘genetic sequencing’ to protect Koalas. The program, a world-first, could help protect the Australian species from disease and other threats.

Stricter Air Quality Standards for Energy from Waste Projects

STRICTER AIR QUALITY STANDARDS FOR ENERGY FROM WASTE PROJECTS

New draft rules that ensure that energy from waste projects in NSW meet and exceed world best practice air quality standards, have been released by the NSW Government for community and industry feedback.

Energy and Environment Minister Matt Kean said the draft Energy from Waste Policy Statement has been revised and bolstered to align with recommendations from the NSW Chief Scientist and Engineer.

Hunter Hydrogen Hub to drive jobs, investment and a Net Zero Future

HUNTER HYDROGEN HUB TO DRIVE JOBS, INVESTMENT AND A NET ZERO FUTURE

The Hunter is set to become the home of one of the State’s first green hydrogen hubs with the NSW Government committing at least $70 million to their development.

Energy Minister Matt Kean said the Hunter is a key site for these developments due to its access to existing energy infrastructure, sustainable water sources, ports and logistics capabilities and a future supply of cheap, reliable renewable energy.
