‘Doors Open’ for new lift plan: Thornleigh & Normanhurst Stations

Thornleigh and Normanhurst Stations to get lifts!

Planning is underway to improve accessibility at Thornleigh and Normanhurst stations. Member for Hornsby Matt Kean MP said,

“The upgrades to Thornleigh and Normanhurst stations will provide a station precinct that is accessible to those with a disability, limited mobility, parents and carers with prams and customers with luggage.”

Preliminary investigations will help identify what work will be required to make both stations fully accessible, with survey and site investigations having taken place in late October.

Paediatrics open for business

The brand new paediatrics unit at Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital is open for business with staff thrilled to be in their new home.

Paediatrics is the second department to open in the brand new 6 storey clinical services building. The centrepiece of the $265 million Stage two redevelopment of the hospital.

Member for Hornsby Matt Kean and Member for Ku-ring-gai Alister Henskens SC took a tour of the new department which includes additional beds for patients and a better play area for younger children and a recreation room with study area for older children.

National Park Estate Target Doubled

NATIONAL PARK ESTATE TARGET DOUBLED

More than 270,000 hectares has been added to the NSW national park estate, smashing the State’s target to increase the footprint by 200,000 hectares by 2021.

Environment Minister Matt Kean said the new additions – totaling 202,669 hectares – are the largest increase to national parks in a single day since 2005.

“Permanently reserving national parks is the cornerstone of biodiversity conservation in NSW,” Mr Kean said.

Social housing tenants are enjoying significant relief of up to $1000 off their home energy bills thanks to targeted NSW Government programs to install solar panels on properties throughout regional NSW.

Minister for Water, Property and Housing, Melinda Pavey, said 689 Aboriginal Housing Office (AHO) homes on the NSW Mid-North Coast and 272 Land and Housing Corporation (LAHC) homes in the Riverina region would be upgraded with solar panels in the coming months.

Bilbies return to Sturt after 100 year absence

BILBIES RETURN TO STURT AFTER 100 YEAR ABSENCE

NSW Environment Minister Matt Kean has today announced the successful reintroduction of the bilby, into a large cat and fox-free area, at Sturt National Park more than a century since they were declared extinct in NSW.

Mr Kean said the bilbies, part of a new breeding program at Taronga Western Plains Zoo, will begin the process of returning the area to what it was before feral animals wreaked havoc on our native animals.

Squash secures NSW Government sports funding

Squash secures NSW Government sports funding

NSW Squash has received a major boost after the NSW Government announced a $960,000 grant for upgrades to the Thornleigh Squash Centre.

The grant was awarded for improvements to the facility which will include better disable access and allow for 24/7 entry. 

The grant was part of Round Two of the NSW Government’s Greater Sydney Sports Facility Fund which has seen almost $40 million awarded to 22 projects across Greater Sydney to improve the quality and quantity of sports infrastructure.
