Three schools in Hornsby Shire announced for cooler classes

Students at three schools in the Hornsby Shire will be cheering when airconditioning systems are installed in their classrooms — although they may have to wait a while before they beat the heat.

Meanhwile, other schools in the region will have to wait until the start of 2019 before applying for air conditioning in classrooms and the library.

The State Government announced its $500 million cooler classrooms program earlier this year to install airconditioning units in more schools across NSW.

Hornsby state Liberal MP Matt Kean unveils plans for new multi-deck carpark in Hornsby CBD

Commuters are set to benefit from a new multi-deck carpark just metres from Hornsby station.

Hornsby state Liberal MP Matt Kean revealed exclusively to the Advocate the State Government’s have secured land on Jersey Rd, Hornsby for the new parking facilities to service thousands of commuters.

Mr Kean said the agreement between Transport for NSW and TAFE NSW had only recently been finalised.

“Planning is still in the early stages,” he said. “It is expected to be a large carpark that will be able to support more than 200 spaces.”

Name that Crane!

Matt Kean MP and Year 4 student Ben Hunt

A crane that is working at the Stage 2 Redevelopment at Hornsby Hospital was the subject of a competition for local schools around the Hospital to see if year 4 students could come up with a name for the crane.

Ben Hunt from Asquith Public School won out of hundreds of entries when he came up with the name, CRANIUM which is quite appropriate for a Hospital! Ben won an iPad and $1,000 for his school from the construction company WATPAC.

Matt Kean MP invited student leaders from local primary schools to Parliament House to see what a day in politics is like for our state representatives.

Eighty students attended the morning tea and tour along with parents, teachers and Principals. The students toured the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council before joining Mr Kean for a special guest visit from Manly Sea Eagles hooker Apisai Koroisau, Sydney Swifts Paige Hadley and Emily van Egmond from the Matildas.

Every year the Rotary Club of Hornsby get up bright and early to sell beautiful daffodils to the commuters at Hornsby Station for Daffodil Day.

Celebrating 32 years Daffodil Day will hopefully raise $4million forthe Cancer Council.

Hornsby Rotary volunteers Gail Farr, Paul and Monique Rashbrook are just a few of those who assisted in selling the merchandise all day at the station.

They were joined by the Member for Hornsby Matt Kean MP who said, 'I would like to thank the Rotary Club of Hornsby for ensuring this fundraiseris run every year."

Mr MATT KEAN (Hornsby—Minister for Innovation and Better Regulation) (13:42): I pay tribute to four amazing Berowra Heights mums who are competing in a 50-kilometre trail run to raise much‑needed funds for Oxfam. The Friday Firecrackers—Vicky Huyskens, Stephanie McLean, Sue Willmott and Nicole Jan—will run the Oxfam's 50-kilometre Trailwalker event at Bobbin Head on 25 August. They hope to complete the course in less than 10 hours. The friends, members of the Berowra Bush Runners, are motivated by knowing the funds they raise will help fight poverty around the world.

Space for play and learning for Mount Kuring-gai

Students at Mount Kuring-gai Public School will have a new protected space thanks to a grant from Member for Hornsby Matt Kean MP.

The Mount Kuring-gai P&C awarded $7,500 a Community Building Partnership grant to construct a shaded play and learning space in the school. 

This gives funds to local community groups such as P&C association to make improvements without having to rely on fundraising. 

"The P&C at Mount Kuring-gai work very hard and I look forward to seein the new space once its completed," Mr Kean said.

Everyone Can Play in Hornsby

Member for Hornsby Matt Kean MP today said playspaces for everyone, young and old, and of all abilities, are a step closer with the release of new draft design guidelines for the NSW Government’s $20 million Everyone Can Play initiative.

“I’m delighted to invite the community to provide feedback on our ‘Everyone Can Play’ draft design guidelines, to help us create world-class playspaces that are inclusive and accessible for everyone,” Mr Kean said.
