Intersection Improvements

Member for Hornsby Matt Kean MP is pleased to announced $1.5 million will be invested in upgrading the intersection of The Esplanade, Duffy Avenue and Chilvers Road.

“The community has wanted to see changes to this intersection for a long time and we are finally seeing some action to improve safety and traffic flow through the area,” Mr Kean said.

The funding which will be directed to Hornsby Council to complete the work which will see it change from the two T junctions to a four way junction.

Active Kids extended to two vouchers per year

Active Kids Voucher extended to 2 vouchers per year

The hugely popular Active Kids program will be doubled this year with two $100 vouchers available in one calendar year to help families with the cost of living and encourage children to play more sport all year round.
Member for Hornsby Matt Kean MP said Ihe expansion of the Active Kids program would mean each child was eligible (or a $100 voucher twice a year, with the key aim of helping them participate in sport in summer and winter.

Volunteer recognised for contribution to life saving

Volunteer Craig Holland and Matt Kean MP

For four decades Craig Holland has been dedicating his time toensuring the safety of the community at the beach, traveling from his home in Mount Colah to Newport beach twice aweek.

Craig Holland of Mount Colah was presented with the Premiers Recognition award for 40 years services to the community, by Member for Hornsby Matt Kean MP.

First joining Newport Surf Club in 1976, Craig has been an integral part of the club specialising in long boats. He has spent many hours maintaining boats and towing them to competitions up and down the coast.

"Every year, we recognise people who helped save a life- whether they're members of the public, StJohn volunteers,or our colleagues from other emergency service organisations'' Sarah Lance, CEO, St John Ambulance (NSW).

Usally it is the Member for Hornsby Matt Kean MP who gives out the awards, but recently he was pleased to accept the 'Save a Life Award' from St John Ambulance.

The prestigous 'Save a Life' Award was awarded to Mr Kean after he administered first aid to a woman who collapsed at a community event.

Local sports groups receive grants

The Hornsby Swim Club will now be able to offer electronic timing, thanks to a grant from Member for Hornsby Matt Kean MR

The club was awarded $3,000 to purchase the Colorado timing systemwhich is currently being implemented into Friday meets.

"Hornsby Swim Club has been working hard to increase their membership and they can now offer electronic timing for all races, "Mr Kean said.

Also awarded a sports grant o f S1,880 was Hornsby Touch Football Association. They have used the funds to provide accreditation for a number ofcoaches and referees.

Race on for new high school

Race is on for second High School in Hornsby

Matt Kean MP's announcement last week for investigations to start into a Co-ed High School for Hornsby came hot on the heels of Slate Government Labor Candidate hopeful Katie Gompertz' Petition for an additional high school for the Hornsby electorate.

Whilst Mr Kean has confirmed the NSW Stale Government wilt commence a feasibility study investigating the need for a new co-educational high school in the Homsby area, Ms Gompertz is busy collecting signatures, 800 as Bush Tele went to print, from eager parents seeking a more localised secondary education option for their children.

Hornsby Clubs recognised

HORNSBY CLUBS RECOGNISED

Member for Homsby Matt Kean MP joined CEOs from Clubs across Homsby to celebrate the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding and thank them for the work they do in our local community.

The MoU has been signed by the Premier, the Deputy Premier and the Minister for Racing, and Clubs NSW, and is the fourth signed by the Liberals and Nationals. Mr Kean said. "Clubs play such a vital role in our communities it is important we ensure their continued success."

Michael Parker at Berowra Licensed Post Office is pleased to announce this landmark goal in collecting bottles & cans.

"Return and Earn is a great initiative for the community. The concept has been realiy picked up by the locals with lots of community groups using it as a fundraiser as well as kids collecting bottles and cans to raise some extra pocket money." said Michael.
