Public reminded to stay warm safely this winter

Minister for Innovation and Better Regulation Matt Kean MP warns to check appliances to stay safe this winter

The shorter days and rapidly cooling weather have prompted a new warning about the safety of household heating appliances.

Minister for Better Regulation Matt Kean said dodgy or worn out appliances could be dangerous or even fatal and people should check them before using them, this winter.

"Families are torn apart in house fires every winter, and it breaks my heart knowing they could have been prevented with a simple safety check," Mr Kean said.

Minister for Innovation and Better Regulation Matt Kean believes he can slash the number of unresolved complaints from the current 5000 a year. A further 50,000 dubbed consumers aren't even bringing their problems to Fair Trading, he says, so he wants to make it worth their while to do so.

NSW Fair Trading’s My Place roadshow is coming to Hornsby

NSW Fair Trading’s My Place roadshow will help educate local consumers, traders, licensees, landlords, and residents when the program visits Hornsby next week. 

Launched in 2003 as the Regional Access Program, My Place helps consumers understand their rights while simultaneously ensuring businesses are aware of their responsibilities as traders. 

Minister for Innovation and Better Regulation and Member for Hornsby, Matt Kean, said the program would include an information session for Woniora Retirement Village residents to help raise awareness of costly scams.

Property Manager Jailed for Stealing Rental Bonds

Former Property Manager Mark Kolodynski has been jailed for 18-months for stealing $370,000 from trust accounts of two real estate agents. An investigation by NSW Department of Fair Trading found the trail of money led to his personal TAB account. "If you choose to do the wrong thing, Fair Trading will come after you, and you will be prosecuted," said the NSW Better Regulation Minister Matt Kean. "This results reflects the hard work of Fair Trading's investigators."
