Last chance for loose-fill asbestos testing in greater Newcastle

LAST CHANCE FOR LOOSE-FILL ASBESTOS TESTING IN GREATER NEWCASTLE

Homeowners in Greater Newcastle have until 31 August 2018 to register for free testing for loose-fill asbestos insulation.

Minister for Innovation and Better Regulation Matt Kean said he had extended the registration period and thousands of homes were now signed up.

“We’ve had a great response to the program so far. More than 6,600 homeowners in Greater Newcastle have registered, and more than 1,250 properties have already been tested,” Mr Kean said.

More than 100 homes, some in Sydney have been acquired by the government and condemned for demolition having been found to contain loose-fill asbestos.

Minister for Innovation and Better Regulation Matt Kean MP says the Government is doing what we can to remove it from the community.

NSW Government strengthens loose-fill asbestos program

The NSW Government has strengthened the Loose-fill Asbestos Insulation Program to support more residents across the state, Minister for Better Regulation Matt Kean announced today.

Free tests are now being offered in the Tamworth Regional Council area after a property was found to contain loose-fill asbestos.

In addition, properties affected by chrysotile loose-fill asbestos will also be included in the government's Voluntary Purchase and Demolition Program.
