Shoppers are being warned to pay attention to refund policies

Australian's will spend billions in the Boxing day sales and it is important you know your rights.

Minister for Innovation and Better Regulation Matt Kean says the NSW State Government want to make sure consumers are well aware of their rights. If a product you purchase is faulty you are entitled to a refund, however, if you just change your mind you are not entitled to a refund.

A warning for prospective homebuyers - always read the fine print. A number of families who have purchased homes off the plan have been left disappointed when the reality did not quite meet their expectations.

The NSW government has announced reforms to the Property, Stock and Business Agents Act, in an effort to clean up the real estate agency industry.

It is a big win for the Real Estate Institute of NSW, which has been lobbying for nearly 10 years to tighten up the law in keeping with the institute's goals to professionalise real estate agents.

Sam Robinson claimed to be a desperate man running a building company, who turned to a life of crime because contractors were stalking and threatening his family.

The serial conman's stories did not convince a judge in 2007, who sent him to prison for several fraud offences noting he had "clouded" chances of reforming himself.

RETIREMENT village residents and their families must be better protected by state laws to stop them being “ripped off”.

That’s the blunt message delivered by Federal Consumer Affairs Minister Michael McCormack, who has given the NSW government a six-month deadline to fix “rife” abuse of the industry.

Speaking as Kathryn Greiner wrapped up her inquiry into retirement homes in the state, Mr McCormack said he was alarmed by evidence suggesting lax and unenforced laws were being manipulated by unscrupulous owners and operators.

NSW GOVERNMENT LAUNCHES NEW RESOURCES TO HELP PROTECT VULNERABLE CONSUMERS

Vulnerable consumers will be better protected thanks to new resources explaining their rights in the marketplace as part of Fair Trading Week.

Minister for Better Regulation Matt Kean and Minister for Disability Services and Multiculturalism Ray Williams launched the project today that will boost support for cultural and linguistically diverse consumers, as well as people with disabilities.

Mr Kean said the My Consumer Rights resources feature a storybook and animated videos on DVD in 11 community languages.
