$40,000 NSW Government Grant to Studio Artes

Studio Artes Northside in Hornsby received a $40,000 grant this week from the NSW Government for the charitable organisation's Studio Artists' program.

The program which is funded by the NSW Arts and Disability partnership, aims to professionally develop artists with a disability and pair them with an established artist to act as a mentor.

Hornsby MP Matt Kean said he was delighted to award the funding to Studio Artes which will help talented disabled artists further contribute to Sydney's mainstream art scene.

"I'm a big advocate for improvements to mental health and I'm honoured to be able to help this very worthy cause," Mr Kean said.

"Charitable groups like Studio Artes do a tremendous job in our community and tremendously help our mentally disabled residents."

Studio Artes, artistic director, Gabrielle Mordy showed Mr Kean some of the latest masterpieces to be featured around Sydney by studio clients Belinda Bennie and Matthew Calandra.

"Our artists benefit hugely from this program and have better self-esteem and social skills as a result," Ms Mordy said.
