War Memorial Funding

Hornsby RSL Sub Branch members gathered at the Hornsby War Memorial on Tuesday (June 25) after receiving a $10,000 community restoration grant from the NSW Government.

The Sub Branch members were joined by NSW Minister for Communities Victor Dominello and Hornsby State Liberal MP Matt Kean for the announcement which will see funds go towards restoration, cleaning and conservation works for the historic Hornsby District cenotaph.

NSW Minister for Communities, Victor Dominello, said funding for projects like the Hornsby War Memorial were critical to help educate the next generation of our nation's war-time history.

Hornsby MP Matt Kean said he is delighted funds will go towards improvement works on the historic Hornsby War Memorial cenotaph.

"Next year will signify 100 years since the start of World War I," Mr Kean said.

"War memorials like Hornsby's acknowledge the memory and supreme sacrifice our soldiers have made during war-time conflict.

"It's for this reason that it's so important to maintain their memory and properly maintain cenotaphs around NSW and Australia."

The total estimate of work for the Hornsby War Memorial works is $16,845. The remaining funding required will be sent to the Federal Department of Veterans' Affairs, to be considered under their 'Saluting Their Service' grant program.
