New Resource Guide To Assist Drivers

State Member for Hornsby, Matt Kean MP, is encouraging residents to stay up to date with the state's road rules, by reading a new resource guide developed by the Centre for Road Safety.

The Top 10 Misunderstood Road Rules in NSW, launched today by Roads Minister Duncan Gay, is a valuable rules refresher for drivers who have not stayed up to date with changes through the years or have forgotten the details of some rules.

The guide was developed from significant community feedback, including that received after changes were made to NSW Road Rules in November last year, which brought the state in line with the Australian Road Rules.

It covers rules governing roundabouts, mobile phones, keeping left, headlights, U-turns, safe following distances, school zones, merging, orange traffic lights and giving way to pedestrians when turning.

Mr Kean said its release, which coincides with the inaugural Road Rules Awareness Week, is a great way to start a conversation about the rules road users need to brush up on.

"Road rules change over time and it is important that drivers are aware of such changes", Mr Kean said.

"Increased driver knowledge helps reduce road rule violations and makes our roads safer".

"During Road Rules Awareness Week, all road users are encouraged to phone 132 213 during business hours and ask about any road rule they want information on, or visit rms.nsw.gov.au to view the NSW Road Users Handbook".

The Top 10 guide is available in every RMS Registry in NSW, as well as online from www.rms.nsw.gov.au.
