Vote for Mrs Manton!

Asquith Girls High School is abuzz with excitement with music teacher Alex Manton nominated as Aria Music Teacher of the Year.

Known as just Manton to her students, Alex Manton has been recognised as one of four nominees Australia wide.

Teaching at AGHS for 10 years, Mrs Manton has also taught at several local schools Hornsby South Public, Hornsby Heights Public, Turramurra Public as well as Asquith Boys and Pennant Hills High School.

Member for Hornsby Matt Kean MP dropped by the school last Friday to wish Mrs Manton luck and watch her band practice.

“Mrs Manton is one of Hornsby’s best teachers and I am thrilled she has been recognised in this way,” said Matt Kean. “I encourage everyone to get behind her and vote.”

Mrs Manton runs one of most successful music programs in Australia joining students from Asquith Boys and Asquith Girls High School. The Combined Band Program includes students from both schools who rehearse and perform together as one ensemble.

“My passion for music teaching is fuelled by the enthusiasm my own students have for music,” said Mrs Manton pictured below with Matt Kean MP.

“I feel completely honoured and humbled to be recognised as one of four nominees Australia wide for the ARIA Music Teacher of the Year award,” said Mrs Manton. “The support and response from the local community has been overwhelmingly positive and I am so pleased that the ARIAS and The Song Room have chosen to recognise music teachers as valuable contributors to education.”

She credits her programs at Asquith Girls High School with encouraging students to find their passion for music. One of those students is Bridgitte Holden from Year 11 who enjoys playing in the combined band with Mrs Manton.

“Manton is constantly enthusiastic whether it is in the classroom or in the band,” said Bridgette.

“She has an excellent relationship with every student which shows she is an awesome person and the best teacher.” Link for video: www. ariamusicteacheraward.com.au
