Hornsby tops the list for mobile phone recycling

Hornsby takes out Mobile Muster Awards

Hornsby Council has taken out the National Award along with the State Award for the number one phone recycling. Over the last 12 months the Thornleigh Community Recycling Centre in Hornsby collected 525kg of mobile phones and acccessories for recycling. The drive thru recycling centre makes it easy for residents to recycle a number of household items including mobile phones.

Mobile Muster tells us e-waste is growing three times the rate of general waste in Australia, with 24.5 million old mobile phones stockpiled in drawers across the country. Recyling your old phones is easy at one of MobileMuster’s 3,500 drop off points across the country or choose to recycle from home using the free AusPost mailing options.

Everything collected by MobileMuster is recycled for the circular economy. The program recovers over 95% of the material from old phones and accessories through advanced recycling, which are then used in manufacturing of new products thereby reducing the need for virgin materials. All the metal, glass and plastic in your mobile phone has the potential for a second life.

Every year Mobile Muster acknowledges Local Government areas who have helped contribute to mobile recycling.
