Hornsby small business networking evening

Hornsby small business networking evening

Local small business owners from around Hornsby recently attended the annual Hornsby Small Business Networking Evening at Magpies Waitara. Jointly hosted by the Member for Hornsby Matt Kean MP, Small Biz Matters and Hornsby Chamber of Commerce, the night was a chance for local businesses to meet and exchange ideas.

Over 130 small business owners heard from Matt Kean MP who spoke about his new role as Minister for Innovation and Better Regulation.

“As Minister responsible for Fair Trading I am proud to be working on a number of issues which put consumers first,” said Mr Kean.

"I recently launched a warning for consumers against website Viagogo, a ticket selling website that has generated more than 150 complaints to the Department of Fair Trading. I hope that my warning will ensure others don’t fall victim to this online retailer when purchasing tickets for their favourite concert or sporting event.”

Also falling under Mr Kean’s Ministerial portfolio is Innovation. He recently announced that 10 fintech and cyber-security start ups will be heading to Israel for a global innovation masterclass.

“One of the start ups comes from right here in Hornsby. Small business is vital to the Hornsby community and not only provides jobs for local residents but some are leading the country in their field,” said Mr Kean.

Small businesses owners are encouraged to join the Chamber of Commerce to benefit from other networking opportunities.

They can also tune in to the Small Business Matters radio program hosted by Alexi Boyd on Triple H Tuesdays at 9am. The program speaks with experts from a variety of different fields to assist you in running and growing your business.
