HORNSBY QUARRY REACHES HALF WAY POINT

"It is amazing to see how much the site has progressed over the last 12 months'

Matt Kean MP The community is this much' closer to seeing fruition of 50 hectares of parklands becoming the Centennial Parklands of the north, now that the halfway point of filling Hornsby Quarry has been reached.

NorthConnex has committed to depositing up to 1 million cubic metres of spoil into the quarry which is being done using a state-of-the-art conveyor system,

"Hornsby residents in the near future will benefit from walking trails, bike tracks and picnic areas that can be enjoyed by families," said Mr Kean.

Pennant Hills Road has fast become one of the worst roads in the state. NorthConnex, once completed, will remove 5,000 trucks per day and provide a link between the M1 Pacific Motorway at Wahroonga and the Hills M2 Motorway.

Work on NorthConnex started in February 2015 and is expected to be completed in late 2019, weather permitting.

The new park is expected to open in 2023.

The Australian and New South Wales governments have each committed $412.33 million towards the $3 billion project. For more information on NorthConnex, visit northconnex.com.au.
