Hamilton man left “angry and embarrassed” and missing almost $1000 thanks to controversial online ticket reseller Viagogo

MAURICE Webber was hoping to treat his wife Sue to a night seeing Barry Humphries, but has instead been left “angry and embarrassed” and missing almost $1000 thanks to controversial online ticket reseller Viagogo.

Mr Webber from Hamilton South said he paid $964.26 through Viagogo for two tickets to Humphries’ May 5 show, only to later find Ticketek selling the tickets for $75 each.

“We’ve never bought tickets before, usually my son buys them for me,” said Mr Webber, 78.

“I’m embarrassed – I’m a retired accountant and my friends tell me I should have known better, but I’d never heard of Viagogo. We want to get our money back but we’re also over it now – we just want to make sure everyone knows about their unscrupulous attitude.”

Minister for Better Regulation Matt Kean issued an “urgent public warning” about Viagogo’s “unfair and unsatisfactory business services and practices” in August last year, after NSW Fair Trading received 187 consumer complaints and 237 enquiries about the Swiss-based platform in the first eight months of 2017.
