There were two very proud Cub Scouts at 1st Hornsby Heights Scout Group on Friday 3rd November when Neeve Becchio and Emma Holland were each presented with their Grey Wolf Awards.
The Grey Wolf Award is the highest award that can be achieved by a Cub Scout and requires the Cubs to work through a large variety of tasks, with the highlight being to plan and lead a hike for a group of their fellow Cubs. Emma and Neeve led hikes along sections of the Great North Walk, navigating with map and compass, with a group of 6 Cubs. Quite an achievement for 10 year old Cubs!
A large contingent of 70 Joeys, Cubs, Scouts, Venturers, Rovers, Leaders, friends and families attended the presentation, along with two special guests – Matt Kean MP Minister for Innovation and Better Regulation and Penny Becchio State Commissioner Special Projects Scouts NSW.
Penny Becchio said, “Only a small number of Cubs achieve the Grey Wolf Award and Emma and Neeve’s presentations follow another four Grey Wolf Awards presented in September at 1st Hornsby Heights. This is a reflection of the great enthusiasm at 1st Hornsby Heights Scouts, which is continuing to grow with well over 150 active youth members and 30 adult leaders and has become one of the largest Scout Groups in NSW.”
After 3 years in Cubs, enjoying a 5 day Cuboree, flying, rock-climbing, camping, cooking and learning great skills, Emma and Neeve now move up to Scouts to further their Scouting lives. 1st Hornsby Heights are always on the lookout for new Leaders and enquiries should be directed to richardhn@optusnet.com.au.
