Advocacy Groups Survive

ADVOCACY programs for people living with a disability across Hornsby will continue after a backflip from the State Government over the allocation of specialist funding.

Disability advocacy groups have rallied Hornsby state Liberal MP Matt Kean to go in to bat for them over the past 12 months after the government revealed that funding would be redistributed as part of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

“These groups provide vital information and assistance for people living with a disability,” Mr Kean said.

“My concern was that if these groups were forced to shut their doors, the people in the Hornsby area living with a disability would have less representation of their rights and interests.”

Last Thursday, Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Disability Services Minister Ray Williams revealed $26 million worth of advocacy services funding would be made available until 2020.
