700 spaces at Hornsby Station now available

Hornsby railway carpark open

Member for Homsby Matt Kean MP was pleased to open the George Street Parking at Hornsby Station last week.

With the car park now open, commuters have 700 parking spaces available before jumping on a train to work.

"The Station car park became a work site in June last year as we got on with the job of delivering a major rail infrastructure project to provide faster train turnaround times and increased capacity for more services on the T1 North Shore Line," said Mr Kean.

"I would like to thank ell customers who used alternate parking at Hornsby Westfield and TAPE for their patience during the completion of works" Commuters now have a number of options for parking in Hornsby.

There are 370 spots in the George Street car park as well as free parking from Monday to Friday at Westfield, with arrangements at the shopping centre remaining in place. This means customers now have access to more than 700 spaces during peak times close to Hornsby Station.

Major construction for the remodelling project was completed in midJanuary, with minor work continuing until February to return the car park to commuters. The work addressed a slow 8km per hour scissor crossover used by trains to change tracks, signal positions and complex track infrastructure at Hornsby. As a result the track has been reconfigured and upgraded, the separation of the T1 Northern Line and T1 North Shore Line sections has been improved, and new signalling and overhead wiring has been installed.

"Along with other benefits, this improved infrastructure will also reduce delays caused by emergency works," said Mr Kean. Transport for NSW is continuing to work with Hornsby Council to provide additional parking for commuters using Hornsby Station as part of broader plans for the precinct.
