Hornsby MP Matt Kean made club patron of Hornsby Rugby Club

Hornsby Junior Rugby Union juniors hosted a special guest for training on Thursday as Hornsby MP Matt Kean was unveiled as the club's official patron for the 2014 season.

Club President Andrew Marren said he was very happy to welcome Matt to the Lions and present him with his very own jersey and rugby ball.

"Our club is growing with 15 teams this year from the Under 6's to Opens and over 165 players registered," Mr Marren said.

"Hornsby Rugby Club is very proud of its inclusive nature whereby we welcome all players and actively ensure equal time for those players.  Our boundaries nominally cover Thornleigh, Normanhurst, Hornsby and extend through to Asquith & Mt Colah so there is huge upside for us in terms of growth and being able to welcome new players & families to our Club."

"Our club wants to be strengthen its ties to the local Hornsby community and we're delighted to have Matt's support and assistance."

Mr Kean said he was delighted to support Hornsby Rugby Club and its efforts in providing further grass-roots participation opportunities for juniors.

"Hornsby has a proud local rugby heritage and I'm sure the club will build on their successes looking ahead into the future," Mr Kean said.

This season will also see the commencement of a Golden Oldies (Over 35) team, building on a number of informal games that have been held over the last few years.
