Cycling for Men's Health

State Member for Hornsby, Matt Kean MP, today recognised International Men's Health Week (11 to 17 June) by participating in Hornsby Fitness First's Cyclathon fundraiser.

International Men's Health Week seeks to promote men's health issues, both physical and mental, by understanding the various factors that impact on a man's health – physical, social, spiritual and psychological.

The fundraiser, which required participants to participate in an exercise bike class, sought to raise funds for Tour de Cure, a not-for-profit organisation that promotes cancer research. It also sought to support 70 year old Berowra resident Mr Warrick Try who, after battling various cancers, will cycle approximately 3000km across Europe (alongside 70 year old friend Mr Max Dodd) in August 2012 to raise awareness on cancer research.

'Each day, Australian men are diagnosed with an illness that impacts their lives and those around them', Mr Kean said.

'In order to address these health issues, the various aspects of a man's life, including family, friends, work and hobbies must be considered'

'Warrick Try is a role model to men who suffer from illness and society as a whole. Despite facing countless hardships and challenges, Warrick is determined to assist other men who are suffering by raising vital funds for a worthwhile cause'
