Ride a day in my wheels

Ride a Day in My Wheels is a fundraising challenge held in Hornsby Shopping Mall every year.

On 9th December this year, Ride a Day saw non-wheelchair riders test their skills, navigating a wheelchair through a circuit of ‘obstacles’, similar to tasks faced by wheelchair users every day. This helps members of the non-wheelchair using general public to understand and experience what people with all types of disability have to do on a daily basis.

The event, now in its 7th year, is a collaboration with Hornsby Shire Council and Westfield Hornsby and was publicly opened by Philip Ruddock, Mayor of Hornsby Shire, who then competed in a team with Matt Kean MP. Julian Leeser MP was also a serious contender in the challenge.

One of the teams riding on the day was the Sydney FC fan team of Mel, Dan and Nathan led by Sydney FC right back Rhyan Grant.

Rhyan said, “My good friends Carol and Heidi have worked at Studio ARTES for a long time, and I am always amazed by the work they do and how they talk about the talents of the people who go there. When I was asked to be involved I didn’t hesitate. It’s a great cause and I’m looking forward to it.”
