Celebrating Hornsby's Seniors

SENIORS Member for Hornsby Matt Kean MP presented a number of awards to locals for their dedication to the community.

"Congratulations your hard work and dedication to our local community over many years helping to make Homsby a better place," said Matt Kean.

In a touching tribute Mr Kean has recognised Noel and Rae Rosten for their dedication to the environment Noel Rosten was recently tragically killed. Both Noel and Rae have been part of a number of organisations including the Berowra and District Community Association, The Hornsby Conservation Society, Friends of Berowra Valley, Association of Berowra Creek and Berowra Pro bus.

Berowra local Jan Chilcls was awarded for her many years of services to Berowra Rotary. She joined in 1995 and has held several positions on the board, including President. She is also involved in Berowra Mixed Probus and has supported Girl Guides in Berowra since 1972.

Brian Minnett of Hornsby Heights has spent the last 10 years as head of the Volunteers Auxiliary at Hornsby Hospital. Brian spent many years as a referee for junior rugby league games. He is now a lifetime member of the Northern Sydney District Referee Association.

Sandra Death of Mt Colah was nominated by Asquith Mixed Probus and was the first female President of the Asquith Golf Club, a long time member of Legacy supporting war widows. John Crawford of Thomleigh runs the Press Gang for a group for seniors to learn the art of printing at the Wallarobba Arts and Cultural Centre in Hornsby.

Also from Thornleigh Barbara Fairbairn was awarded for her long-term service to Girl Guides. James Steel from Hornsby who at 90 is still offering classes to teach migrants English through St Peters Anglican Church Hornsby.
