Tribute to Julie Griffin OAM

07 February 2018

Today I would like to acknowledge Julie Griffin, a very special lady from Westleigh. Julie is an amazing woman who has dedicated her life to giving back to the Hornsby community.

Julie has been an active member of the Soroptimist International Hornsby group since 1986. She has held various committee positions within the organisation, over that time including president. She has also been involved in the organisation at a State and international level. A passion for ending domestic violence has seen her join the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Domestic Violence Network and has served on the board of the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Women's Shelter.

She is the brains behind the Walk the Talk march against domestic violence in our community. I have attended this walk for many years and Julie's hard work and campaigning to end domestic voilence is something I support one thousand percent.

Julie was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia on Australia Day, an honour which is thoroughly deserved.

From the people of Hornsby can I say how incredibly proud we all are of the incredible work that she does and what she has achieved. To the thousands of people across New South Wales and the country who have been the beneficiaries of Julie's work to end domestic violence, I say a sincere thank you.
