Parking Boost for Hornsby Commuters

Minister for Transport Gladys Berejiklian and Member for Hornsby Matt Kean today announced a major boost for local commuters, with around 270 new parking spaces to be delivered at Hornsby and Asquith stations.

A re-elected Baird Government will extend the car park at Hornsby Station to provide 230 extra spaces for customers and will build a brand-new car park at Asquith Station, opening up 40 new spaces for locals.

"Parking is a big issue for transport customers, with more people wanting to catch the train than ever before," Ms Berejiklian said.

"We all know how frustrating it is driving around the streets looking for a car park close to the station and I am confident this latest boost will make a huge difference to commuters in the region.

"Since coming to government we've made parking a big priority, delivering thousands of spaces across the network for commuters, and I am pleased Hornsby locals will benefit from this latest investment."

Member for Hornsby Matt Kean welcomed the announcement and said if re-elected the government would work closely with council and the community to deliver the new parking spaces as soon as possible.

"From day-one this government hit the ground running on public transport reforms and customers are now seeing the results," Mr Kean said.

"Labor's record in transport was a disgrace – late-running trains were the norm, customer information was abysmal, electronic ticketing seemed light-years away and customers were sweltering in non-air-conditioned trains.

"Public transport customers are now benefiting from more parking, station upgrades, cheaper and convenient travel with the Opal card, more than 10,500 extra weekly services, modern and air-conditioned trains and real-time apps.

"I know there's still a lot of hard work to go but today's announcement reinforces that the Baird Government is listening to what's important and delivering the transport infrastructure the community desperately needs."

At Asquith the car park is proposed to be built along Jersey Street North. At Hornsby current plans are to turn the existing car park at George Street into a multi-storey, providing approximately 230 extra spaces for customers.
