Sporting Grant Applications Open

State Member for Hornsby, Matt Kean MP, is reminding sporting organisations in the local community that applications for funding grants to help build sporting facilities and boost participation rates are now being accepted by NSW Sport and Recreation.

"Sporting clubs, community groups and Hornsby Shire Council can now apply for grants under the Participation and Facility Program until 26 February 2013," Mr Kean said.

"This is an excellent opportunity to apply for additional funding to upgrade existing facilities or attract new participants".

Under the Participation and Facility Program, applications are invited for:

·    Participation projects – which deliver a sport or physical activity participation experience to an identified group of people; and

·    Facility development projects – building new or upgrading existing sport and recreation facilities.

"The grants can provide up to 50 percent of the net project cost – with the value of voluntary labour and donated materials from the community able to be included as part of the applicant organisation's contribution", Mr Kean said.

"Sporting groups provide residents with countless opportunities to get healthy and meet new people".

"It is vital that sporting groups have access to funding so that they can continue to provide these physical and social benefits to the community".

Applications close on 26 February 2013. For more information and to apply, please visit the website www.dsr.nsw.gov.au/grants or phone 13 13 02.
