Signing up to Celebrate Berowra’s Local History

State Member for Hornsby, Matt Kean MP, today celebrated Berowra's local history by unveiling a sign at Berowra Railway Station to commemorate the Foster's General Store.

"Foster's Store was founded by Jack Foster and operated in the Berowra community from 1914 until the 1950s", Mr Kean said.

"The store really was the heart of the local community and provided much more than groceries – it also sold stock and feed produce and provided a telephone exchange service".

"During the Depression the store played a particularly vital role in holding the community together by providing basic supplies to families doing it tough".

"While it's important for our communities to continue to build, develop and grow, it's just as important to take a minute to reflect on the stories that make our communities what they are today".

Local resident, Maree Foster, first raised the idea to commemorate Foster's General Store in 2010. Transport for NSW has since collaborated with Hornsby Shire Council to find an appropriate way to achieve this.
