Matt Kean MP with Young Archie winner Matthew Chen

Hornsby North Public School student Matthew Chen (pictured above with Matt Kean MP) has taken out the Young Archie Award for his portrait of his father.

Member for Hornsby Matt Kean MP visited the young student at Hornsby North PS to congratulate him on the win.

Matthew’s oil pastel painting called Super Daddy, beat out over 600 entries to win in the 5-8 category.

Matthew wanted his artwork, to be a tribute to his Dad Xinming, a medical scientist.

“Matthew’s work is outstanding and I am certain we will see many more great things from this young man,” Mr Kean said.

It wasn’t the first time the 8 year old has had success in the prestigious awards having receiving an honorable mention three years ago.

If you would like to see Matthew’s work, it is currently hanging in the NSW Art Gallery.
