Writers Festival at Brooklyn Public School

Students from Brooklyn Public School and Cowan Public School came together on Friday for the bi-annual Writers Festival.

Visiting the students in Brooklyn were award winning authors; Stephen Michael King, John Heffernan, Sarah Davis, Tony Flowers, Deborah Abela and Tristan Bancks.

Hornsby MP Matt Kean said he delighted to see the students so engaged and enjoying the writing workshops.

"The students were very enthusiastic about the writing workshops and absorbed a lot of information from the six visiting children's authors," Mr Kean said.

"Any education program like this is vital to encouraging students to further develop their reading and writing skills. I'd like to thank the children's authors for their time and expertise."

Next week signals the start of Education Week across NSW where teachers and students will celebrate the event's 60th year.

Several schools across Hornsby will be joining in the 60th anniversary celebrations with a variety of activities including; environmental workshops, an arts exhibition and a community grandparent's day.
