Small Business Networking Evening

Hornsby's business community came together for a networking evening on Tuesday with NSW Small Business Commissioner Robyn Hobbs and Hornsby State Liberal MP Matt Kean.

The networking evening was an opportunity to showcase local business opportunities and build better contacts across the Hornsby Shire.

It was also a chance for small business owners to share concerns and listen to helpful industry advice from the Small Business Commissioner.

Ms Hobbs told guests that their businesses are vitally important for the local economy and make up 96 per cent of the economy in NSW.

"My role is independent of Government and is set up to help ensure that we have sustainable and healthy businesses in NSW," Commissioner Hobbs said.

Ms Hobbs went on to speak about ways in which the Small Business Commission can assist small businesses by cutting red tape, ensuring there is a level competition playing field, improving regional economies, working with council's business engagement and reaching out to multicultural business communities.

Hornsby MP Matt Kean who set up the small business evening in co-junction with the Hornsby Business Alliance and Small Biz Matters Triple H radio show.

Mr Kean said he was approached by small business operators to help organise a networking evening and jumped at the opportunity.

"Small business is the engine of growth in NSW," Mr Kean said.

"I want to listen to all the owners of small businesses to find out how the Government can better work with them and cut unnecessary and costly red tape which makes small business life harder.
