Kathryn Greiner AO has been announced as the NSW Retirement Village Ambassador, taking on the important role to speak to and advocate for residents across the State.
Minister for Better Regulation Matt Kean said Ms Greiner led the “NSW Inquiry into Retirement Villages” in 2017 which made her the perfect choice.
“NSW is leading the nation in the care and treatment of retirement village residents, and our Inquiry paved the way for an even greater level of support,” Mr Kean said.
“The review gave Ms Greiner a deep understanding of the issues and challenges of residents, making her the best person to act as Ambassador.”
Mr Kean said the announcement followed the passing of legislation in November that put the power back in the hands of retirement village residents.
“Our reforms make retirement villages more transparent and accountable, and part of the Ambassador’s role is to explain these good changes,” Mr Kean said.
“Ms Greiner will do this through a Retirement Village Roadshow, beginning immediately, to visit residents and hear directly from them.
“It’s the perfect chance for residents and their families to drop in, share a cuppa, and ask any retirement village questions they may have.
“If you’re living in a retirement village, we want to hear your experience. If you’re planning to move into one, these sessions will help you make an informed decision.”
Retirement Village Ambassador Kathryn Greiner said it was an honour to take on the role.
“There have been many problems in the retirement village sector over many years, and it’s great to be part of the solution,” Ms Greiner said.
“I’m looking forward to meeting again with residents, sharing the changes made in the Retirement Villages Act, and discussing with them how the new reforms will help them.”
The Roadshow involves talks and information sessions in retirement villages, RSL clubs, and local centres around NSW to help identify residents’ future needs and inform them about their rights.
