First Sod Turned Home For People With Disability In Castle Hill

Minister for Disability Services John Ajaka and Member for Hornsby Matt Kean today turned the first sod of a new group home for people with disability in Castle Hill.

Mr Ajaka said the $2.4 million NSW Government funded residence would consist of a four-bedroom and a two-bedroom villa for adults.

"Turning the first sod means residents are a step closer to moving into a more contemporary, purpose-built home," Mr Ajaka said.

"The NSW Government is investing in new homes like this one so people with disability can live as independently as possible within the community.

"The difference these small group homes make for people with disability is astounding – they live in the wider community and flourish with their new found independence.

"These clients will be able to participate more fully in everyday life including shopping, preparing meals and gardening."

Mr Kean said the property on Parsonage Road is being designed in consultation with clients and their families to create a sense of personalisation and homeliness.

"The service provider Warrah will deliver much-needed services and support to all the residents in the new property.

"This new home is good news for the Castle Hill community and will provide quality local facilities for people with disability."

Six residents will move from Dural into the new home which is expected to be finished early in 2015.
