Following Sydney Water's decision to remove their application to pump more effluent waste into the Hawkesbury river, Matt Kean, Member for Hornsby has called the decision 'A great win for the local community'.
Sydney Water planned to pump up to 10 times more effluent into the Hawksebury River each year instead of spending the required $1m to upgrade the waste treatment plant situated in Brooklyn. Mr Kean called the move' An environmental disaster'.
With the state government committing the necessary funds needed to upgrade the treatment plant Mr Kean called the decision 'A win for the environment, for commercial fisherman, for the oyster industry and for all who love the hawkesbury river'.
