Hornsby Hospital Redevelopment Progress

Health Minister Jillian Skinner and Hornsby MP Matt Kean announced today that a development application has been submitted for the redevelopment of Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital.

"The $120 million redevelopment works will replace ageing infrastructure on the Hornsby campus through a new multi-storey operating theatre complex," Mrs Skinner said.

"This project is long overdue and will be of great benefit to patients for many years to come."

When complete, the $120 million redevelopment of Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital will provide:

  • Eight operating theatres;
  • Three 28-bed inpatient surgical wards;
  • A sterilising services unit; and
  • A supply and dock area.

Mr Kean said the works have been strategically designed to integrate with future redevelopment on the campus, ensuring a functional and efficient delivery of health care.

"Construction is expected to commence in late 2013 and the new operating theatre complex is expected to be completed in 2016," Mr Kean said.

"I know that hospital staff and the community are looking forward to work getting underway.

"After a lengthy consultation period the project planning team has come up with a proposal that provides a modern and functional operating complex that will allow staff to deliver the best possible care to our community," he said.

As part of the planning process the proposal will be on public exhibition. To view the detail visit the Department of Planning and Infrastructure website http://www.planning.nsw.gov.au
