Retirement villages face a shake up

RETIREMENT village operators will face new regulations and an inquiry from the NSW Government into the sector after local residents and others campaigned for change.

Local retirement village resident Neil Smith, 84, said he was “very grateful that at last an inquiry is planned”.

Hornsby state MP and Minister for Better Regulation Matt Kean said a “four-point plan” will “protect residents from potentially dodgy practices”.

“I’ve been appalled by some of the stories I’ve heard across the state and this inquiry is about getting to the bottom of what’s been going on and bringing about a change for effected residents.
