Project Sydney: Green light to cutting red tape

RED tape is to be rapidly slashed in a bid to grow the state’s start-up scene and boost jobs, under ­a state government plan for Sydney to rival San Francisco as a top destination for entrepreneurs.

Innovation Minister Matt Kean has told The Daily Telegraph a new system will be implemented in which businesses can approach the government and find out within 24 hours whether the state is open to changing laws and regulation to accommodate their idea.

If changes get the green light, the state will aim to make them within six months. “When entrepreneurs are thinking where to set up a business, I want them to think of Sydney, not San Francisco,” he said.
