The sporting equipment which was funded by a NSW Government Community Sports Grant includes Pop Up Goals, Bownet Goals, Agility Poles, Training and Match Balls. The equipment will be primarily used by youth teams from under 6 to the under 18s age groups.

Hornsby MP Matt Kean said he was thrilled to support Hornsby RSL Football Club with the $5000 sports grant contribution.

“I’d like to thank all the hard working volunteers and committee members at Hornsby RSL Football Club who work tirelessly behind the scenes to improve their club and grow the sport locally,” Mr Kean said.

With the merger of the Youth Club and Senior Club into one entity the registration numbers have increased to 290 players. After the success of recently implemented training programs participation in these programs are forecast to increase by a further 50% over the next two years which results in the need for new equipment to ensure the training programs run smoothly and efficiently.

The Hornsby RSL Football Club has established a Football School for its members run on a Friday night at Mills Park for ages 6 to 13.

There are over 70 registered attendees in the Football School which is run in partnership with Northern Suburbs Football Association. The training gear purchased with the grant will also be used in the Football School sessions. The cost to the players is subsidised by the Football Club to ensure all players have the opportunity to participate.

The Football School was the brainchild of Bill Hosie who, whilst acting as Head Coach of the Youth Football Club, developed a coaching plan for the Club which included a Football School. He approached the NSFA who came on board with the idea and the School came to fruition.

Bill was ably assisted by Matthew Wall (President Youth Club for 7 years). The hard work and dedication of Matt and Bill has seen the Club come a long way over the last few years.

Club President Roy Ashpole, along with Vice-Presidents Deanne Forrest and Daniel Clarke said that the new equipment will be a huge asset to the club.

“The Club recognises the support of Matt Kean in all its endeavours and hope we have a long and valued relationship for many years to come,” Mr Ashpole said
